Moms- Use Your Baby's Products!

Did you know...

Baby products are AWESOME for other adult cosmetic uses? Let me give you an example and you'll end up saving lots of MOOLAH in the process. Enjoy!

He's TOTALLY owning that mohawk! SWEET!

Baby Shampoo- While we love the shampoo for it's great sniffing qualities of our baby's heads, we also love it because it's tear free. I'll elaborate in a second. Ladies, use baby shampoo to clean your makeup brushes. Why? Here comes the science behind it. First, let's talk pH. Skin's natural pH on the scale of acidity is around 5.4 pH, while your tears are around 7.5 pH. Most shampoos are very basic in nature, basic being defined on the scale as ranging from 8 to 14. That's why there's all this hoopla surrounding the sulfates contained in shampoos these days. Bases are generally more foamy, meanwhile stripping your hair of its color and making your hair more porous.

While most baby shampoos (generally speaking) have lower amounts of Sodium Laureth Sulfate, they also happen to be hypoallergenic, tear free, and dye free, which are all good attributes for sensitive skin. Think about it. Your makeup brushes touch all over your face. So, if something is safe enough to keep you from tearing up, it's sure to be safe enough to slough all over your face. Don't use regular shampoo to clean your brushes because of the pH. As regular shampoo can strip your hair of its natural moisture, the same principle can be applied, because good makeup brushes are usually made of natural hair as well. The only reason that I would buy actual makeup brush shampoo is because it contains extra conditioners. I say don't waste your money on it.

Makeup brushes, as long as they're your personal stash, can be washed anywhere from every couple of weeks to a month. This depends on how oily your skin is.

Properly wash your brushes like this:
  1. Using water, make a lil' bath in your sink, being sure to include the baby shampoo.
  2. Put your brushes in and let them soak for a couple of minutes.
  3. Give special attention to all of the bristles.
  4. On REALLY dirty brushes, go ahead and squirt shampoo onto your hand and swirl the brush around.
  5. Rinse.
  6. Repeat until water runs clear, making sure to rid any color residue from the brush.
  7. Lightly squeeze the water out of your brushes, making sure not to pull too hard.
  8. Finally, lay your brushes flat on top of a towel or a bunch of paper towels to dry for about 12 hours.
NEVER leave brushes to dry upright in a cup, as this will ruin the ferrule of the brush- that's the part of your brush that holds the hair to the handle. Leaving to dry upright will not only loosen the glue, but will also harbor nasty bacteria.

Remember, any good ol' baby shampoo will work, generic brand, too!

How To: Rock Hot Pink Lips

Do you ever wonder how some people get away with certain colors on their face? I know. You're probably thinking, "That won't look good on me". I used to say this before I began experimenting with all color. Here is the answer:

With moderation, of course.

Make up is by far the best medium to play and experiment with, simply because it's temporary. So, try something new and if you hate it wipe it off. No harm done. However, if I get an email about you wanting a hot pink lip permanently like a tattoo, I'd advise against it because you're backing yourself into a "one corner look". Furthermore, no lipliner except for maybe red will cover this hot mess up.

But, brights are where it's at this spring. To latch onto this latest craze remember this one make up principle: Pick one focus of interest on your face, always. Today the interest will be on the lip. Unless you're a rockstar or going to a rockstar's concert, I'd say follow the rule.

Try to keep eye makeup at a minimal to focus the attention to your lip. What's your minimal eye make up routine? I suggest maybe one simple eyeshadow swept from the lid up to the brow bone. Team this up with mascara and voila! You're done. But if you're a bit of a makeup diva like myself, maybe add a neutral or black liner since I feel naked without it. I'll even go as far as to say pick either the top OR the bottom lid and line it.

So, how exactly do you create a hot pink lip? Here's how... See the two looks below.
1- Start with CoverGirl Outlast lipstain in "Scarlet Pucker". Line, then fill in your lip.  Using this step will give the pink a base to stand on, making it last longer & be more vibrant.

2- Next, layer Milani's Lip Flash on in "Flashy".

3- Last but not least, gloss it up with Milani's 3D Glitzy gloss in "Fashion Diva".

Now you have your anywhere drugstore look. Alternatively, try this two step look:

1- Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain in "Scarlet Pucker".

2- YSL's Golden Gloss in "No. 4".
(YSL's golden gloss is to die for in my opinion. It's a little pricier than most other glosses out there, but hey... it's got gold in it. Once you try it and smell it, you'll be hooked.)

Now look who's trending! Go you!

Fortune Cookies From Above

"And then?"...
"No and then!"...
"And then!"

Earlier today...

I ate a fortune cookie. Weird, right?!
Kinda freaky if you ask me- it must be from above!

Then I thought...

"Sweeeet!"..."Dude!"

Lol. But while it's on my mind, if you are going out tonight, have a safe and Happy Saturday!

(and maybe download that new app that locates your car.)

The Mascara Review Board says:

Today we're testing out...

Maybelline Falsies Volum' Express Mascara(Hydrofuge)
and I must say I'm a big fan for what it does to my own lashes-

I only used one coat.
However, the curvy wand can be a little messy for newbies.
Try holding the wand the other way if you have problems, wiggling the brush left to right at the the base of lashes, then coating the length of lash.

You can definitely get lashes longer and darker by applying a few coats, too.

But, it gave me raccoon eyes after washing it off. Probably expected for a waterproof mascara. But that's not to say don't use it.

In the end...
I'd use it as long as I don't mind needing a little extra make up remover to thoroughly clean it off under my bottom lashes after washing my face.

The Lips I'm Diggin'

Kiss me, fool!
Whenever spring time rolls around, I really enjoy changing up my usual lip routine. So, I rotate out most all of my lipsticks for different options. Let's face it- we all have our staples that we love to go to. But beachy weather puts me in a tinted and glossy mood! It makes me think about the big LipSmackers lip balm tubes I'd occasionally be DELIGHTED to find in my Easter basket.

I want to eat them all...

Now this is a lip balm! Excuse me, I asked for a large?!

I'll save my "lip staples" for another time- because they're all AWESOME of course but glosses and tints are where it's at today, peeps.

MAC's Confetti Plushglass
MAC's Confetti Plushglass has a nice brightening effect that pairs well with golds, taupes & bronzy- like colors.

Did I mention it helps plump the lips so lips appear fuller and smoother?

And, even though it doesn't really taste sweet per say- the smell makes me want to literally eat my lips.

It also gives the lips a nice fuller feeling without putting snake venoms on your lips.

Another honorable mention to MAC's Oversexed Plushglass.
(I must admit this color IS one of my lip staples year round.)

The color looks scary but will lightly tint your lips or give a nice wine tint depending on how much you put on or what color lip liner you use with it.

And just like noted above- nice smell and PLUMPS. Yay!

Philosophy's Kiss Me Very Emollient SPF 20 Lip Balm

very nice hint of Peppermint Scent!

This salve will cure even the most sunburnt lips. But hopefully you'll have used this BEFORE you go out in the sun, jk.

Trish McEvoy "Instant Pick Me Up" Lip Shimmer. You can do and eat anything with this one!

It's a gloss and a long wearing lip stain that adapts to your own lip's natural color. The result is about a three shade darker lip.

It makes my lips a shimmering pink, though- that I absolutely love!

And last, but certainly not least...

Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain

Putting this on your lips is a very quick application because it dries so fast. I will say, though- just draw within the lines- because it "stains" quickly.

Won't kiss off or smudge. I often use this as my lipliner, lining then filling in the entire lip, then applying my fave lipstick or gloss. The reason why is- it creates a great base. Do you have a favorite color lipstick that in the tube looks great, but on your lips not so much? We all have natural lip coloring that play into the colors you put on (them). This can change the color, not giving you the effect you desired.  "Layering" and putting on this lipstain underneath will really help. Have a nice coral lipstick? Put the coral underneath. Favorite berry shade? Put the berry shaded lipstain underneath.... you get the point.  :O)

Anyway, happy glossing! Now tint away! Try it- you'll like it, I promise.

Luv,
~J.~

The Beach Beauty & The Preparation H Beast

Now that's a nice bum, huh?!

What does a beauty queen know but probably will never tell anyone?

That it takes some work and lots of courage to feel confident and sexy in front of strangers checking out your bum either onstage or at the local meat market, a.k.a. the beach. So, if you're like me and don't have a genie in a bottle to wish upon before you make it out for spring break, there is a genie in a tube:

Let me introduce you to my  little friend-

 Preparation H Ointment!

A couple facts you may not know about it and why should you care?

Preparation H Ointment is a vasoconstrictor that dates back to the mid 1930's that was originally a sunburn oil for its soothing and protectant properties. So how did they know it would be great for your hemorrhoids? Well, for that I have no idea. But here's what I do know- It works by constricting the blood vessels of near where it is applied, thereby restricting fluid and blood to the area.

Anyway, I'll admit I'm no doctor, but I did read about a dermatologist who agrees that it works for a temporary effect for say 2-3 hrs max of SHRINKING (the look of) CELLULITE. YAY!

I also read that bodybuilders have been sloughing this product on their abs to lose the extra water weight between the skin and the muscle before competitions. There was also an article about single men who go to clubs and put this stuff on with hopes of getting lucky by the end of the night, saying that Preparation H helped them look ripped.

Now, remember I'm not a doctor and I am not advising you to put this on your face or baggy eyes, but women swear by it. They like the depuffing and tightening effect it gives to their faces.

As maxim online states, "Dermatologists agree that Preparation H does the trick. It tightens facial skin by temporarily constricting blood vessels and shrinking under-eye tissue-the same way it constricts and shrinks rectal blood vessels and tissue, explains Debra Jaliman, M.D., a clinical
instructor in dermatology at New York's Mount Sinai School of Medicine."
Read the article below:
Now, personally I'd rather use Strivectin (you know- the famous stretch mark cream) which comes specially formulated for the face and eyes... and I've used it as so. Can I please tell you that Strivectin for the eye is one of my fave eye creams I swear I can feel working.

SO, what makes cellulite? First let me start off saying that genetically we all have different thicknesses to our skin. This is why most men don't have cellulite because generally they have thicker skin hiding the fat cells that lay under the dermis. "Cellulite is a term used to describe the dimpled appearance of skin caused by fat deposits that are just below the surface of the skin."

Back to Prep- H:

Active ingredients
Uses/ Purposes
Mineral oil 14%
Protectant
Petrolatum 71.9%
Protectant
Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%
Vasoconstrictor
Inactive ingredients that deserve honorable mention:  glycerin, lanolin, paraffin, purified water, shark liver oil, thymus vulgaris (thyme) flower/leaf oil, tocopherols aka vitamin e, beeswax

In the end...
I can say that I slather this stuff into my derriere, saddle bags and back of my legs for about a minute in a circular motion after showering on the days I go to the beach. It's like self-confidence in a tube. Plus, as seen above Preparation H Ointment will help moisturize and appear glossy on the skin. That will help hide cellulite all in itself!

Let me know what you use. Do you think that it's weird, too?! Holla!

Luv,
~J.~

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Here are some rockin ideas on how to wear your make up today....

Remember that if you want the focus on your eyes, pair your lips with a nude/spice/natural color.
I personally love MAC's lustreglass in Spring Bean. You all may notice that the color is lime greenish but on your lips it will look like honey.
MAC's Spring Bean Lustre Glass
* I also wanna mention that this is one of my go-to colors for younger girls #1 because they love the color, & #2 Mom's like the wearable natural look. *

And, below is the cutest diva in the making... she has her own youtube channel!

I just want to know where she got her Wonder Woman lipstick!

Best of Bronzers

 Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess

BEST OF BRONZERS

Xen-Tan Scent Secure Daily Lotion

Milani Baked Bronzer

Urban Decay Baked Bronzer

Hoola by Benefit Cosmetics

With that beautiful sunny breeze wisping by my face, I realize it's about that time to get ready for Spring Break here in Florida.

If you're anything like me, I rarely have time to lay out in the sun.
So, here is my list of favorite bronzers that won't make you look like an orange Oompa Loompa:

For your face:
1- Urban Decay Baked Bronzer- It's shimmery, so light will illuminate your cheek bones.
2- Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess- This thing is huge and will probably last you for three years.
3- Hoola by Benefit Cosmetics- Use this with a different brush than it comes with for expert application.
4- Milani Baked Bronzer- Who doesn't love the baked minerals with a Walgreens price point? That's what I call beauty on a budget!

L'Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze

For your body:
1- Xen-Tan Transform Luxe- Allows you to refresh your tan daily.
2- L'Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze- Has a nice shimmer that will help hide cellulite. The sparkles go away in water eventually, but the tan does not.
3- Xen-Tan Scent Secure Daily Lotion- Takes the nasty scent away of self tanners and leaves skin looking gold and perfected.
