The Beach Beauty & The Preparation H Beast

Now that's a nice bum, huh?!

What does a beauty queen know but probably will never tell anyone?

That it takes some work and lots of courage to feel confident and sexy in front of strangers checking out your bum either onstage or at the local meat market, a.k.a. the beach. So, if you're like me and don't have a genie in a bottle to wish upon before you make it out for spring break, there is a genie in a tube:

Let me introduce you to my  little friend-

 Preparation H Ointment!

A couple facts you may not know about it and why should you care?

Preparation H Ointment is a vasoconstrictor that dates back to the mid 1930's that was originally a sunburn oil for its soothing and protectant properties. So how did they know it would be great for your hemorrhoids? Well, for that I have no idea. But here's what I do know- It works by constricting the blood vessels of near where it is applied, thereby restricting fluid and blood to the area.

Anyway, I'll admit I'm no doctor, but I did read about a dermatologist who agrees that it works for a temporary effect for say 2-3 hrs max of SHRINKING (the look of) CELLULITE. YAY!

I also read that bodybuilders have been sloughing this product on their abs to lose the extra water weight between the skin and the muscle before competitions. There was also an article about single men who go to clubs and put this stuff on with hopes of getting lucky by the end of the night, saying that Preparation H helped them look ripped.

Now, remember I'm not a doctor and I am not advising you to put this on your face or baggy eyes, but women swear by it. They like the depuffing and tightening effect it gives to their faces.

As maxim online states, "Dermatologists agree that Preparation H does the trick. It tightens facial skin by temporarily constricting blood vessels and shrinking under-eye tissue-the same way it constricts and shrinks rectal blood vessels and tissue, explains Debra Jaliman, M.D., a clinical
instructor in dermatology at New York's Mount Sinai School of Medicine."

Now, personally I'd rather use Strivectin (you know- the famous stretch mark cream) which comes specially formulated for the face and eyes... and I've used it as so. Can I please tell you that Strivectin for the eye is one of my fave eye creams I swear I can feel working.

SO, what makes cellulite? First let me start off saying that genetically we all have different thicknesses to our skin. This is why most men don't have cellulite because generally they have thicker skin hiding the fat cells that lay under the dermis. "Cellulite is a term used to describe the dimpled appearance of skin caused by fat deposits that are just below the surface of the skin."

Back to Prep- H:

Uses/ Purposes
Mineral oil 14%
Protectant
Petrolatum 71.9%

Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%
Vasoconstrictor
Inactive ingredients that deserve honorable mention:  glycerin, lanolin, paraffin, purified water, shark liver oil, thymus vulgaris (thyme) flower/leaf oil, tocopherols aka vitamin e, beeswax

In the end...
I can say that I slather this stuff into my derriere, saddle bags and back of my legs for about a minute in a circular motion after showering on the days I go to the beach. It's like self-confidence in a tube. Plus, as seen above Preparation H Ointment will help moisturize and appear glossy on the skin. That will help hide cellulite all in itself!

Let me know what you use. Do you think that it's weird, too?! Holla!

Luv,
~J.~

  1. Have not tried Prep H for cellulite but it does work on bags. It's an age old tick of models.
Strong coffee rubbed on cellulite works magic to get rid of it also. Will have to try Your Prep H technique too. Thanks!
